(The biggest Holland Pavilion ever present in CEE 2009)

15 Sep 2009

This must be the biggest Holland Pavilion ever to the CEE, in terms of the number and level of participating universities!

CSCSE-Nuffic Neso China, as the sole official representative of the Dutch higher education sector in China, will head the Holland Pavilion, consisting of 18 top Dutch higher educational institutions in coming China Education Expo (CEE) 2009!

7 out of the 10 Dutch universities ranking top 200 in the 2008 Times World University Ranking will be present, together with research universities well-known in specific studying fields, like Tilburg University and University of Twente. In addition, for the first time, ArtEZ Institute of Arts will join in the Holland Pavilion in the CEE 2009, introducing the famous Dutch modern education in art innovation (so-called ‘Dutch Design’) to Chinese students.

The Netherlands is becoming more and more popular in Chinese overseas education market. A 60% increase of admission applications has been witnessed in the past two years. Due to the large number of applications flowing in, a new on-line application system of Neso Certificate has been put into use since September 1st 2009. In order to share the information with as many students as possible, CSCSE-Nuffic Neso China launched plenty of web-based communication platforms, e.g. the on-line counseling system, and the ‘Orange Community’ BBS system. These e-platforms provide efficient ways for Chinese people to learn about the Netherlands and the quality dimensions of Dutch higher education.

The Orange Tulip Scholarship Programme (OTS) has been proved as a big success in its initial year. Around 4 million RMB was collected from 15 Dutch sponsors to finance 22 top Chinese students studying in the Netherlands, from the academic year 2009-2010. The OTS image and brand have been well built amongst Chinese students. For the coming academic year 2010-2011, more Dutch corporate sponsors are to be picked, and more scholarships are expected.
Currently about 8,000 Chinese students are studying in the Netherlands. As graduates of Dutch universities, they are allowed to use the one-year orientation period to look for a job and then stay in the Netherlands for at least 5 years with a work permit. This policy by the Dutch government enables international students to gain not only overseas studying experiences, but also overseas working experience in the Netherlands, which is especially important to Chinese students.

NANC (Netherlands Alumni Network in China), as part of CSCSE-Nuffic Neso China, aims to gather Chinese alumni of Dutch institutions and explore more job opportunities in local business community to add more value of studying in Holland. A business partnership has been introduced to Dutch job intermediaries and China-based Dutch companies with intention of arranging job opportunities to Chinese alumni.
