NANC ‘Summer Touch’ in Beijing and Shanghai
03 Jul 2009
The Netherlands Alumni Network in China (NANC中国荷兰校友会) organized a social networking event ‘Summer Touch Beijing’ on June 27, 2009 in Beijing. More than 60 people including Chinese and Dutch alumni, business partners, prospective pre-alumni and Dutch embassy colleagues attended.
NANC values the relationship with all alumni and members; this gathering was meant to provide an open platform for people to extend their networks further while enjoying the Vietnamese classics at Sanlitun Village. This event was hosted by NANC with onsite support from Hutongschool and CAI (a charity for underprivileged youth in China). There were 4 lucky draw prepared.
Ideas and suggestions for alumni evens are discussed; several alumni were interviewed in person regarding the theme and purposes of alumni workshops and trainings in the coming period.
Some newly returned Chinese graduates registered NANC membership online after the event. This event was announced and advertised on NANC website and via NANC Facebook and LinkedIn community; positive feedbacks regarding online event registration were received from participants. All participants spent a pleasant evening meeting other people from around the globe.

Another business networking event ‘Summer Touch Shanghai’ was organized on the same day in Shanghai! This event was organized with material and logistics support of NANC Shanghai alumni chapter event coordinator and several active alumni.
It was intended to promote:
1 NANC
2 Casual and quality Sino‐Dutch exchange of ideas
3 Participants’ appetite for great snacks and drinks
4 Most of all great fun for all
In a nice warm sunny afternoon garden setting in the busy Shanghai. The design already includes a significant and intensive mixture of interesting speeches, gifts, nice foods and drinks, bargain deals, lucky draws, etc.
Mr. Eric Verwaal, the Consul General Shanghai was also present; and he liked the event very much. In general, the promised agenda was delivered and over all objectives achieved, 83 people attended this event despite the sudden heavy rain and storms that happened just 40 minutes before the start of the event. So the excepted opportunity to enjoy the garden venue was missed due to heavy rainfall.
The event was eventually held on the inside, which brought a positive effect that the smaller space actually shortened people’s distance and encouraged more communications. Upon door registration, 99% of participants could not even rest or stop participating; and most people were attending or talking all the time.
Mr. Leon YANG, in Shanghai based one of NANC Executive Committee (EC) members, introduced the latest development of NANC; each of two guest speakers delivered a short speech on a very interesting topic. "Landscape and Future of China's Logistics Market: A Dutchman's Perspective" by Mr. Eric, China CEO of TNT Mail; "Some Encouraging Job Perspectives and Market Update Amid Financial Crisis" by Ms. Kelly QIAN, Executive Partner of Jace-Kelly Leadership Acquisitions Firm. All followed up by two lucky draws, the winner received a bottle of wine sponsored.
Most of the verbal feedbacks were very positive. The speakers enjoyed themselves. A producer of some National Geographic programs attended and expressed a high regard for the event as very unique, non‐commercial, well organized and entertaining. This producer was inspired by this event and would like to contribute in future events in Shanghai.
