SHANGHAI - The number of Chinese who wants to study in the Netherlands has increased by 30% compared with last year. The director of the Netherlands Education Support Office (NESO) China Jacques van Vliet said on Sunday at a pre-departure seminar in Shanghai for Chinese students who plan to study in the Netherlands.
In the coming academic year, around 1900 Chinese will start their studies at a Dutch university or college. The students from China are after Germans who are the largest group of foreign students in our country. A major reason for the popularity of the Netherlands as study destination is that a total of about 1400 English-language courses in higher education. Van Vliet stated, "They are more than those of France and Germany in total."
The Netherlands also has a policy that after their graduation, the foreign students have the opportunity to stay for one year in the Netherlands to find a suitable job. 'That is a flexible system in comparison with other European countries. "
The students at the meeting in Shanghai see their training as enrichment. "International experience in China is becoming more important," said Huang Yongjin, who begins to study at the University of Groningen in September. He raised a pressing question then: "Are Dutch people really so tall? And will I feel intimidated as small Chinese?
