Founded in 1938 and located on Xi'an, an ancient city, Northwestern Polytechnic University (NPU) is one of the first 15 universities funded by State Project 211, at the beginning of "10th five-year plan", it was selected one of the key universities approved by Ministry of Education to be funded by Project 985. NPU is also one of the first 33 universities which have set up Graduate Schools, one of the first universities which have set up Software College, and approved as a National University park.
NPU now has more than 1,200 full and associate professors, including 200 Ph.D. NPU has thirteen academic schools, offering programs on 52 undergraduate specialties, 77 master's specialities, 43 doctoral specialities, and 9 postdoctoral research studies. 9 of the specialities of NPU are granted the right to confer the first-class Ph.D. degrees.
